Fanny Perez

In college, Fanny was writing a paper for her Sociology of Art Class, researching the various definitions of Art. One of these definitions defined art as the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. “This concept put so much of what we’d been going over simply into one sentence, and it made more sense to me than saying that it’s whatever we put on an empty canvas. It recognizes [Art’s] multidimensionality…reminds us of the transient nature of the state of things,” reflects Fanny. For Fanny, her body is her main medium. Her focus is her body and breath. It holds the paint brush, and dances the dance – dance being one of the artist’s favorite expressive mediums. “I consider art to be part of our humanity, [what] develops best when in harmony with our environment. It is our birthright to have room to express ourselves, and with that, push forward new ideas that change the shape of things. I become an artist to bring what I experience in other planes to this plane.”  Her body is her medium because, “like every other body, it holds the keys to unlock the doorway to the transpersonal experience. It is through our bodies that we activate portals between higher planes of consciousness where we transcend regular limitations and realize what is most important.” Meanwhile, Fanny’s work is a representation of her personal experience of synchronicity, visions and lessons that have reinstated within the artist a belief in the truth and power of unconditional love. Her works in many mediums aim to demystify this spiritual aspect of life many of us have been conditioned to undermine. Her greatest artistic challenge is moving through fear. “Fear — the opposite of love — makes me lack trust,” shares Fanny. Currently, she’s working on being human, weaving the unseen forces into form, and how to be happy (including sharing how to be happy with others).  Her latest series “Shining One” involves ink and embroidery as well as pictures and short videos. She’s also working on a project in collaboration with her sister Clau Perez (an amazing VJ) called Fases. Fases is a video piece that will be presented as a live audiovisual performance using dance meditation to explode the limitations of self, time and space.
