Although he aspired to be a comic-book artist upon graduation from high school 40 years ago, by the time of his final term, Ritchard purchased a box of oil paints that changed his life forever. After taking a sharp turn towards the Fine Arts, he passionately studied Surrealism, the Old Masters, the Dutch, German and Abstract Expressionists, and Neue Sachlichkeit, eventually dialing in his own unique style of abstraction. Painting in oil on linen, Rodriguez sees his works as living creatures with “shapes, problems and solutions” that he, as the artist, can address from a place of pure spontaneity. Ritchard works in Upper West Side Manhattan in Morningside Heights and is currently working on a series inspired by the 4th dimension and magic.
