Dean Cercone

A visual artist-musician, Dean counts many artists on his mother’s side. His work is about digesting difficult emotions. Cercone manages to “expel [his] inner subconscious and demons” through art. His imagery tends to be hyper-energetic and repetitive, approaching what he calls “personal, spiritual exorcism,” although his art can’t really be translated in words. It’s something which “hints at the embrace of chaos and the expansive maternal comfort,” remarks Dean. Currently, he has a studio in the basement of a collective space in Brooklyn called Bohemian Grove. His BALANCE QUERY INTENTION FIRES series on large canvases exhibited in Chelsea recently, a body of work involving making bonfires and using charcoal from the fires in the backdrop. Dean is also actively recording a new album that’s due to come out on cassette in November.
